Lemon Basil Sprouts

Cultural and Historical Information
Lemon basil is a hybrid herb Ocimum × citriodorum with a long history of culinary use, especially across Southeast Asia and parts of Africa where its citrus-bright flavor complements soups, stews, salads, and grilled dishes. It’s believed to have originated in India and spread across Asia, where it became a staple in traditional cooking and herbal practices before arriving in the Americas in the 17th century. Chefs and home gardeners today value its fragrant leaves both as a garnish and as a fresh flavor enhancer in modern cuisine. Growing lemon basil into sprouts or microgreens is a more recent trend, embraced in contemporary culinary culture for its tender texture and concentrated flavor.
