Marigold

Cultural and Historical Information
Marigolds have been cultivated and celebrated in many cultures worldwide — in ancient Egypt they appeared in religious contexts, symbolizing renewal and used in medicinal concoctions, while in India they are integral to weddings, festivals, and religious garlands due to their auspicious color and fragrance. Mexican traditions especially honor marigolds (called cempasúchil) during Día de los Muertos celebrations, where their strong scent is believed to guide spirits back to the living world. Beyond ceremony, marigolds also have a long culinary and medicinal history, being used to season dishes, infuse teas, and as a natural dye or saffron substitute in European cuisines.
